The Challenge: Collapsed Sewer Pipe Due to Settlement

A homeowner reached out to us regarding a persistent sinkhole and drainage issues. Upon inspection, we identified that the sewer pipe (SDR35) had collapsed due to years of settlement. The repair required careful excavation, proper permitting, and expert execution to ensure a long-lasting solution.

Scope of Work

  • Permit Acquisition: Obtained two permits for work within the right-of-way, along with a plumbing permit.
  • Excavation & Shoring: Due to the depth of the pipe (8.6 feet), shoring was required to ensure safety.
  • Demolition & Pipe Replacement: Removed the damaged sections, ensuring proper slope and installation of 10 feet of SDR35 6″ pipe.
  • Soil Compaction & Backfill: Backfilled in 12-inch lifts to minimize future settling.

Site Cleanup & Concrete Replacement: Restored all affected areas, including driveway and approach replacement with exposed aggregate and broom-finish concrete.

Concrete Restoration

As part of the repair, we reconstructed the affected driveway and approach, ensuring durability and a seamless aesthetic finish:

  • Total Replaced Area: 219 sq. ft. of driveway and 19 ft. x 5 ft. approach.
  • Concrete Finishes:
    • Broom finish on approach for compliance with city regulations.
    • Exposed aggregate on the driveway to match existing concrete.
  • Additional Features:
    • 4000 PSI concrete strength.
    • 4-inch thickness for longevity.
    • Control joint grooving for enhanced durability.

Project Execution & Results

The job was completed within 5 business days, factoring in excavation, permitting, concrete work, and final inspections.
